The 2023 EVE career development workshop for corporate women in mid-level management was hosted in Accra by Araba Africa and EVE International.

The workshop, with the theme "Preparing the Next Generation of Female Leaders," sought to smash the glass ceiling and inspire more women to pursue leadership positions. With the aim of inspiring women to take initiative and realize their full potential, it included topics including professional advancement and provided ideas for ambitious female corporate executives.

Speakers urged audience members to develop resilience, put in a lot of effort, and make a concerted attempt to assume leadership roles, which is essential to achieve gender equality in all professions.

Elsie Appau-Klu ESQ, Managing Director of Acreaty Ghana Limited, spoke on "Developing a Fulfilling Career and Career Planning," noting that the future generation of leaders must be adaptive, resilient, and results-oriented in addition to being moral and value-driven.

She added that one must always learn new things and be technologically savvy because numerous trends and innovations are changing the nature of occupations and influencing the future of work.

"Given the speed at which technology is developing, workers must constantly adapt and learn new abilities. Upskilling and lifelong learning are becoming crucial for remaining relevant in the employment market. Along with technical talents, soft skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, adaptability, and emotional intelligence are becoming more important, she said.

Additionally, she emphasized that not planning one's career may have a number of detrimental impacts on a person's professional and personal lives, stating that "Before determining one's career objectives, it is vital to examine one's interests, skill-set, strengths, and limitations. Additionally, creating a career plan entails being knowledgeable of oneself, the possibilities that are accessible, and the hurdles that may exist.

Ms. Appau emphasized that: "Career development trends give young female professionals possibilities to better their career progress, increase their work performance, and contribute to the economy. Young female professionals who are deliberate about their career development can get through the barriers that prevent them from obtaining equal opportunities and fair representation in the workforce.

There's no need to make someone else's light go out so that yours can shine more brightly. Eliminate prejudices, and don't minimize the work of others.  Dress the way you want to be addressed as well, she said.
